  Are You One of the People Considered "Essential" ???

  i keep hearing all of the things about "essential" people in this convid-19 virus thing.. well, i woke up this morning, did my morning poop, and just felt like i am essential.

  i walked around my house while my wife was still sleeping, did the alexa thing to hear the daily text.

  it made me feel good.

  This is from the 90s - they even say paedophilia is a crime.

  Reading this I thought, yes not only is the betrayal of a child damaging but the betrayal of a trusting adult - you know the ones who believed this was a Christian organisation, then found out it was run by hypocrites who were taking advantage of them.

  Betrayed by Those They Trusted
  Betrayal of a child’s trust can leave terrible scars. This is especially true when it is a parent, friend, or mentor who betrays the child’s trust. The magnitude of child abuse by parents can be seen from the flood of phone calls received by a hot line after the broadcast of a program called “Scared Silent: Exposing and Ending Child Abuse,” which was hosted by talk-show personality Oprah Winfrey in the United States. “The most shocking crisis calls were from young children, calling in fear, wanting to escape the pain of physical or sexual abuse,” noted executive producer Arnold Shapiro, as quoted in the journal Children Today.
  This event did much to dispel the notion that child abusers are big scary strangers. The fact is that “the vast majority of abuse is perpetrated by parents and other close relatives,” concludes Shapiro. Other research confirms this finding and also indicates that trusted family friends have at times groomed the child and family for later, well-planned abuse of the child. Incest is the most shocking betrayal of trust.
  Sexual abuse by pedophiles is another threat to children throughout the world. Trends & Issues in Crime and Criminal Justice gives this definition: “Paedophilia refers to sexual attraction towards the very young. . . . Paedophilia invariably involves the commission of crimes such as sexual assault, indecency and offences relating to child pornography.”
  Sickening reports of pedophile rings, which greedily exploit children sexually, are flooding in from all over the world. (See the box on page 7.) The victims are both young boys and young girls. Lured by unscrupulous men, they are sexually abused and then threatened or lavishly spoiled to encourage them to remain with the “club.” The men who plan and perform these vile acts are often prominent leaders of the community and sometimes do so with the full knowledge and protection of the police and the judiciary.
  Sexual abuse of children by clergymen is also causing outrage. News reports from all over the world reveal the extent of child abuse by clergymen, sometimes even in the name of God. For example, a convicted Anglican priest told his ten-year-old victim that “God was speaking through him [the clergyman], and anything he did or anything [the boy] did was loved by God and therefore right.”
  In Australia a review of the book The Battle and the Backlash: The Child Sexual Abuse War commented on child abuse by clergymen and others in positions of trust. It said that the organizations involved appeared to be concerned with limiting the damage to their own image and protecting themselves rather than protecting vulnerable children.

  
  Devastating Effects
  A child’s trust is usually given completely, without reservation. So if that trust is betrayed, it has a devastating impact on an unsuspecting young mind. The publication Child Abuse & Neglect notes: “Persons and places that previously signaled safety or support have become associated with danger and fear. The child’s world becomes less predictable and controllable.”
  As a result of such abuse, much of which has gone on for many years, some children have developed social and psychiatric problems later in life, well into adulthood. This betrayal of trust is so damaging because a child has been taken advantage of because he or she is a child. Yet, many children who are abused never report the matter—a fact that child abusers rely heavily on.
  In recent years, evidence of worldwide child abuse has been growing, so that today there is a mountain of such evidence that can no longer be denied or ignored. But most agree that the elimination of child abuse is a formidable task. So these questions arise: Is there anyone who can really protect our children? How can those of us who are parents protect our God-given heritage and look after the lives of our vulnerable young children? To whom can parents turn for help?

  I remember being given £80 for going to the pioneer school. Nice eh? But I'd put in at least £80 into the collection box. £80 that I couldn't really afford. So - I got given my own £80s back.

  RubaDub if you become a CO can you get me the rest of my money back and give me a pay check for everything I did including stand-in talks? My hourly rate is... hang on... now what is the biggest number I can think of?

  i used to do the collection boxes at the conventions. Usually at least one person would put some money in my box. But occasionally I'd put a little bit of money in so I had something to carry back in 3 or 4 cardboards boxes stuck one on top of the other.

  There were times in the day when you'd get more money than at others (publication release was usual high point). But there weren't that many who felt they had to give.

  I'd position my box, next thing, I'd be getting run over by everyone. Their mission was chat, food and toilets. Donating money wasn't high on their agenda. Not in my part of the world anyway. But that was then.

  As they brought in the those pledge forms, I stopped doing the boxes and took up the more sensible activity of having a coffee.

  Hi Cookimaster - just to add my bit of research to your own, I found that all/most of WT's false doctrines can be traced to Theo Sufism, aka Theosophy.

  One of the Theo Sufical leaders (I think it was Annie Besant) set up the Lucis Trust aka the Lucifer Trust.

  Also - when green issues cross the line from secular to religious - I have heard that some believe that Lucifer is the light of man's inner evolution.

  And yes WT is a subversion of Christianity. I call it a mantrap for Christians.

  I was presented with a personal pledge form - must have been 2014 or 15 sometime round then. I looked at the elder who presented it and said, "put that away."

  I could see he was ashamed even to have to hand it to me. It was contrary to everything we had been taught.

  As he put it back into his folder he looked more relaxed. He knew it was the wrong thing to do. But now he could tell Bully Elder Whoever that he had tried to give me a form.

  I felt like scribbling up my own form and handing it to them telling them what my hourly rate was for attending.

  I did the leg work of studying the Bible carefully before I was contacted. I knew the Bible pretty well. When I studied with them, unknown to me, I was affecting the sister who was studying with me. She was actually learning some things from me. I wasn't trying to teach her I was just asking the right kind of questions.

  But I did learn from them. One thing I couldn't figure out was why things were so different after Jesus died. The Catholics had some answers but their answers were not as clear as the Watchtower's. Some of the information the Watchtower puts out is accurate and I found it helpful. Also some brothers and sisters were very knowledgeable.
  

  But Watchtower info stays at a certain level. Like so many I was gradually nodding off in the meetings because they were boring. But I found it easy to do stand-in talks. I wanted to be helpful so I did most of the stand-in talks. It'd get me through the Thursday meeting without becoming unconscious.

  In 2005 I did a stand-in talk that was about a teaching I had never heard of. Because I had learnt what was in the Bible long before being contacted, I knew the teaching was blasphemous.

  Thereafter I wrote to the GB and had to lay out my case. I learnt a bit of Hebrew and Greek and my insight into the Bible grew. Through all the issues I have had to face with these spin doctors, I have learnt how their spin works. Its been a real education!

  I tend not to get involved in discussions. Ok a little bit sometimes, I might point to relevant scriptures. But like snowball fights discussions can start off as fun and then people get hurt. If I can put something out there that is helpful, great. But I think the best thing is to encourage people to have confidence in their own intellectual powers and read the Bible for themselves, if they want to.

  Still no conclusion on the new disfellowshipping procedure - it may be a very heavy marking. To treat a marked person as if they are disfellowshipped. So what's that exactly if not disfellowshipped?
